The Missing Lamb

A shepherd had one hundred sheep. He loved every single one. Each night he counted them all. One night he counted again. He got to ninety-nine. One little lamb was gone! The other sheep were safe at home. But the shepherd could not rest. He left the ninety-nine and went out. The dark hills were cold and wide.

Found!

He walked and called the lamb's name. He looked by the rocks and trees. He climbed up high and down low. Then he heard a small, soft cry. The lamb was stuck in a bush! The shepherd lifted it with care. He held it close and smiled. "I am so glad I found you," he said. He carried the lamb all the way home. That night he counted one hundred again. This story is inspired by the parable of the lost sheep, Luke 15. To the shepherd, one lamb still mattered.
