Suffering arrives without invitation, and it rarely announces its purpose, leaving us to wonder whether our pain carries any meaning at all. Every thoughtful person eventually confronts the same difficulty: if the world was made by a good and powerful God, why does anguish persist so stubbornly? Philosophers have named this the problem of evil, yet the words printed on a page cannot capture the weight that a grieving family actually feels. Children ask it plainly, and the elderly ask it again with a quieter voice, so no honest life escapes the question for long. We may debate the matter calmly in a classroom, but the same question turns sharp and personal beside a hospital bed. Honesty therefore demands that we refuse to shrink the question, because a hope that ignores real suffering is finally only a comforting illusion.
