Two Builders

Mika and Sam were friends who loved to build. Each of them wanted a house by the sea. Mika walked and walked until she found a wide, flat rock. Sam stopped at the first soft patch of sand. 'This spot is easy to dig,' Sam said with a grin. 'The rock is hard to cut, but it will hold,' said Mika.
The Long Week
Mika chipped at the rock for many long days. Her arms grew sore, and her hands felt rough. Sam patted his sand into walls before lunch. 'You work too slow,' he laughed from the shore. Mika only smiled. She kept on working, day after day. She wanted a house that would truly last.
The Storm
One dark night, a great storm rolled in fast. Rain poured down, and the wind began to howl. Big waves crashed against both little houses. Sam's walls softened, slid, and sank into the sand. His house was gone. But Mika's house held tight to the solid rock. It did not move, even when the sea roared.
A Strong Place
When morning came, the sun rose warm and bright. Sam felt sad as he looked at the sand. Mika ran over and took her friend's hand. 'Come build with me on the rock,' she said. Together they worked, and the new house grew strong. This story is inspired by the wise and foolish builders, Matthew 7. What we build upon can hold us through the storm.
