Ten Silver Coins

Long ago, a woman named Mara had ten silver coins. She kept them safe inside a small clay jar. Each coin was bright, round, and very dear to her. She had saved them, one by one, for many years. At night, she liked to count them by the fire.

One Coin Is Lost

One quiet evening, Mara counted her coins again. She counted one, two, three, and then she stopped. Her hands went still. Now there were only nine coins in the jar! One little coin was lost somewhere in the house. Her heart felt heavy, and her eyes grew sad.

The Big Search

Right away, Mara lit a bright oil lamp. She swept every dusty corner of her small house. She looked under the table, the chairs, and the beds. She shook out the old rugs by the door. She did not give up. At last, something round and shiny caught her eye. There it was! Her lost silver coin lay near the wall.

Mara jumped up and gave a happy shout. She ran to call her friends and neighbors over. "Come and be glad with me!" she said warmly. "I found my little lost coin at last!" Everyone smiled.
