A Tiny Package

Hold one small, dry seed in the palm of your hand. It feels dry, hard, and almost lifeless. But this little package is not truly asleep forever. Inside that tiny shell hides an amazing secret. A whole young plant lies folded up and quietly waiting. The seed carries food, a plan, and a spark of life. Yet a mighty tree can rise from it one day.

Waking Up

A seed can rest and wait for a very long time. It waits for water, warmth, and soft soil. When the rain comes, the seed drinks and swells. Warm days help the seed grow a little faster. Soon the hard outer shell cracks and splits open. A tiny root pushes down to search for water. A slender green shoot climbs up toward the warm sunlight. The tiny plant reaches for light it has never seen. Down and up, the seed always knows which way to grow.

A Hidden Plan

How does the tiny seed know what to do? Inside, it holds instructions for every leaf and flower. An acorn will only ever grow into a tall oak tree. A sunflower seed will never grow into an apple tree. Each kind of seed keeps its own special plan. This tiny map guides the plant its whole life. The plan is written so small that we cannot see it. Yet it works perfectly, again and again, in every seed.

A Gift to Wonder At

The Bible tells of a tiny mustard seed that grows into a large plant. Jesus used this small seed to picture God's kingdom. This idea is inspired by the parable of the mustard seed, Matthew 13. Something very small can still hold something truly great inside. When you plant a seed, you join a quiet wonder. Each seed quietly whispers that our whole world was carefully made.
