A Long, Hungry Walk

Long ago, a large group of people crossed a wide desert. They had left a hard land, and at last they were free. But the desert was dry, and food was very hard to find. The wind blew sand, and the hot sun burned their skin. Their stomachs growled, and some of the people began to worry. "What will we eat out here?" they asked one another. Day after day, they wondered how they would ever live.

White Flakes at Dawn

The next morning, something strange lay all across the ground. Thin white flakes covered the sand like sparkling frost. The people had never seen this kind of food before. "What is it?" they asked, so they named it manna. They gathered the flakes and baked soft, warm bread. It tasted sweet and light, a little like honey. Everyone was glad, for now they finally had food to eat.

Just Enough for Today

God gave the people one simple rule to follow each day. Every family should gather only the bread that it needed. No one should keep extra manna for the next morning. But some people did not listen, and they saved too much. By morning, that leftover bread had spoiled and smelled bad. Still, fresh manna always appeared again with the sunrise. The children watched, and they slowly understood the gift.

Trusting Tomorrow

Why should they gather only enough for one single day? God wanted the people to trust him fresh each morning. They slowly learned that tomorrow would bring its own gift. Little by little, their fear and worry grew much smaller. Every dawn, the soft white flakes appeared once more. This story is inspired by the manna, Exodus 16. So the people ate their bread, and they were not afraid.
