The Little Boat

Here is a lake. The lake is big. Here is a boat. The boat is little.

Jesus is in the boat. His friends are with him. It is night. They sail on the water. The water is calm.

"Come," says Jesus. "Let us cross the lake." So off they go. The boat rocks softly. Rock, rock, rock.

The Big Wind

Then a wind comes. It is a big wind. Whoosh! Whoosh! The waves jump up. Splash! Water gets in the boat.

The sky gets dark. The rain comes down. Drip, drop, drip! The wind howls loud. The waves get tall. Tall like walls!

The boat rocks and rocks. The friends hold on tight. They are so scared.

Where Is Jesus?

The friends look around. Where is Jesus? He is in the back. He is asleep! The storm is loud. But Jesus sleeps and sleeps.

The friends run to him. "Wake up! Wake up! Please help us!"

A Quiet Word

Jesus opens his eyes. He is not scared. He stands up in the boat. He looks at the wind. He looks at the waves.

He says a quiet word. "Peace. Be still."

And the wind stops. The waves lie down. The water is flat. The water is still.

Still Water

All is quiet now. The boat does not rock. The moon comes out. It shines on the water. The water looks like glass. So flat. So still. So calm.

The friends look and look. "Who is this?" they say. "Even the wind hears him! Even the sea!"

Jesus looks at his friends. "Why were you so scared? I was here with you."

For You, Too

Sometimes we feel scared too. The dark can feel big. A storm can feel loud. But we are not alone. God is near us. He is bigger than any storm.

You can say a quiet word too. "God is with me." Say it in the dark. Say it in the storm.

So rest, little one. Be still. All is well.
