The Bargain We Rarely Read

Every day, millions of people surrender fragments of their lives with a single, almost thoughtless tap on a glowing screen. When we click 'accept,' we enter a binding contract whose terms are deliberately long, dense, and unread. That small gesture feels harmless, yet it quietly authorizes distant companies to gather, store, and analyze our most intimate details. The defining question of our era is whether privacy still deserves protection now that personal data has become an invaluable currency. Some observers contend that privacy is an outdated ideal, a relic that convenience has rendered both impractical and unnecessary. I argue, however, that privacy remains worth defending, precisely because its erosion is so gradual that we scarcely notice the loss. To understand why, we must weigh the comfort we gain against the autonomy we silently forfeit.
