The Empty Tank

Our class had a pet turtle named Pip. He lived in a glass tank beside the sunny window. Every morning, we fed him fresh green leaves. But one Monday, the tank was completely empty. Pip was gone! How could a slow little turtle disappear?

The Big Search

Our teacher, Mr. Lee, told us to search the room. We looked under the desks and behind the wooden chairs. Maya checked the cozy book corner. Sam searched near the classroom door. We found dust, a broken crayon, and one lost sock. But we could not find our missing turtle. My heart felt heavy and very sad.

A Warm Surprise

Then Maya heard a soft scratching near the closet. A pair of rain boots stood in the corner. She peeked inside the left boot and gasped loudly. Pip was there, curled up and fast asleep! The boot was warm and snug, just like a little cave. We all cheered with big, happy smiles.

Home Again

We gently put Pip back into his warm tank. Mr. Lee smiled and shared a little secret with us. Turtles love small, snug places where they feel safe. Now we cover his tank with a lid each night. Pip sleeps by the window, and he is happy again. Sometimes the best hiding spot is a quiet one.
