The First Try

Mia loved to watch the kites in the park. They danced high above the soft green grass. She wanted to build a kite of her very own. So Mia taped two thin sticks into a cross. Then she glued on paper and tied a long string. She ran fast across the wide green yard. But the kite just flopped and fell down.
A Big Rip
The next morning, Mia decided to try again. She used stronger tape and thicker paper this time. But a sudden gust of wind ripped it apart. Mia felt sad, and she almost wanted to quit. Her hands were tired from all the work. "Just one more try," she told herself.
Dad's Tip
That evening, Mia's dad saw her worried face. "Every kite needs a tail," he said kindly. A tail helps a kite stay calm and steady. Mia tied strips of soft cloth to the end. She also made the light sticks straight and even. Now the kite felt balanced in her hands.
Up and Away
The next day, Mia carried her kite to the hill. She waited for a strong breeze to blow. Then she ran, and the kite lifted into the air. It climbed above the trees like a happy bird. Mia laughed and cheered with joy. She had tried and tried, and never given up. At last, her dream had come true.
