A Long Trip

Look at the food on your plate today. Where did each part really start? Most food does not begin at the store. It is a busy journey. It comes from a farm far away, and it travels a long way to reach you.

Milk from the Cow

Milk starts with a cow in a green field. The cow eats grass all day, and it grows strong. A farmer milks the cow every morning. Big trucks carry the cold milk into town. Then it fills the jug that you drink at home.

Bread from Wheat

Bread begins as golden wheat in the warm sun. The wheat grows tall in wide, open fields. Farmers cut it down and grind the tiny seeds. This soft powder is called flour, and bakers need it. A baker mixes the flour with water, then bakes warm bread.

Honey from Bees

Honey comes from busy bees that live near farms. Bees fly to bright flowers and gather sweet nectar. Bees are small but strong workers. They carry it back and fill their crowded hive. A beekeeper takes some honey out with great care. Soon it drips down onto your soft bread.

Thank the Farm

Every bite you take starts far from your kitchen. Milk, bread, and honey all begin outside. Farmers, cows, and bees work hard for us. So what food will you thank at dinner tomorrow?
