The City Boy

Theo lived in a noisy city full of bright lights. This summer, his parents sent him to stay on Nana's farm. He missed the tall buildings and his friends back home. Theo dropped his heavy backpack and looked around the wide yard. Nana hugged him at the wooden gate and smiled warmly. 'You will love it here,' she said. But the farm felt slow, green, and very strange.

The Stubborn Goat

On his first day, Theo heard a loud, angry sound. A gray goat named Pickle glared at him from the fence. Pickle kicked over buckets and chewed on Nana's straw hat. 'Stay away from that goat,' Nana warned with a frown. Nobody on the farm could handle the grumpy old goat. Even the other animals kept far away from him. But Theo watched Pickle closely every single day.

A Small Gift

Each morning, Theo brought a crisp red apple to the fence. He set it down gently and waited very patiently. Pickle sniffed, snorted, and turned his stubborn head away. Still, Theo came back the next day with another apple. Slowly, day by day, the old goat crept a little closer. One warm afternoon, Pickle finally ate right from Theo's open hand. His heart pounded, but the boy held perfectly still. The apple vanished in three quick, happy bites.

A Real Friend

Theo grinned as Pickle nuzzled his dusty sleeve. Nana watched from the porch and could hardly believe it. 'You did what no one else could do,' she said softly. Theo learned that trust takes time, patience, and gentle care. When summer ended, he hugged the woolly goat goodbye. Pickle followed him along the fence, bleating sadly. He promised Nana that he would visit again next summer. The quiet farm did not feel so lonely anymore.
