The Two Faces of Creation

Every significant invention enters the world carrying a promise of progress and a warning of possible harm at once. Automobiles granted millions an unprecedented freedom of movement while simultaneously reshaping cities and warming the fragile global atmosphere. The apparent innocence of a new device often conceals the profound social transformations it will silently set in motion. Because such consequences frequently unfold across decades, the moral weight attached to creation is remarkably easy to overlook. A responsible account of technology must therefore hold both faces, the bright and the dark, steadily in view.
